Act V: Pyramus and Thisbe by ~Smitkins:iconSmitkins:

Artist's Comments

First off, apologies for the size, but there's no way to do the boys any justice, even having sized it down this far. (I might post them each separately in my Scraps...? Dunno yet.)

Not many people will get this one, so here's some sort of....explanification:

Way back when, the Beatles performed a bit of Shakespeare for a TV special. It was hilarious. They didn't take themselves seriously at all, which made it just divine. :D It's Act V of A Midsummer Night's Dream, BTW. The story of Pyramus and Thisbe. (I'd post the video link, but the code gets ruined. Sorry.)

Just for giggles, here they are--George as Moonshine, Ringo as Lion, Paul as Pyramus and John as Thisbe. I know that the colors are all wrong, but since the only references I have are in black and white, this was the best I could do--Blind guessing! I still think they turned out quite cute.

Originally sketched in pencil, inked with Copic pens and colored in PhotoShop. No idea on time, except that it took WAY too long.

Hilarious! I had no idea they did that. It's my favorite Shakespeare scene of all time. I wish I could see it... I'll have to look it up on YouTube.

They are small, but the expressions are still great, especially George. Marvelous!
:iconsmitkins:
Thank you muchly! I love George in that skit, he's so deadpan and precise with his delivery.

:D I just fixed it--I didn't realize DA had shrunk it even more than Photobucket usually does. Argh.

If you look up "beatles pyramus thisbe" on YouTube, you should find it. Every time I post the link here, it gets mutated by emoticons.

Love it! Very funny stuff, and I think you *did* do them justice-- especially Paul. ;] You got his strangely cute bug-eyed look down pat. Well done!
:iconmari-chan:
this just makes me laugh all the more because of the fact that i saw my former college's version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream"...with 60's-era costuming...and now you've gone and drawn this, and i can't contain my giggles!

I saw it! It's so hilarious. I watched it twice. The Boyfriend -- a Beatles maniac -- had never seen it. He loved it. I'll be pimping your fabulous art to him tonight. ;)
